Happy 4th of July Everyone!

We have had some heat in my parts of late, and things are finally starting to grow and ripen.  Cucumbers and zucchini are coming out of the garden at a steady pace this week.  Tomatoes are coming along nicely.....the anticipation of a sun-warmed garden tomato is growing by the day!

I am diggin' these Baby Persian Cukes ("Green Fingers"), growing on a small A-frame trellis, so far they are behaving and staying within their designated area.

Another new variety in the garden this year is a crinkly leaved basil.  The flavor is more mild than your standard sweet basil making it wonderful to put on just about anything, especially a grilled cheese or ham sandwich.  YUM!  (There is also Thai, Pistou, and Sweet Basil out in the garden to keep it company.)

Salad Leaf Basil from Renee's Garden

I am ready to start digging for new potatoes any day now, not sure if I will find anything worth robbing though.  Raspberries will be next harvest list, can't wait.  HAPPY GARDENING!

Getting close to tomatoes??? Oh, you lucky thing. No where near that point here. Heck, my cukes are just barely breaking ground. But, our bout of hot weather should get things rolling.
Good luck with the taters! It's always like Christmas, digging those up and seeing what's there...

I love Basil. Is this a Basil you grew from seed, or was it a plant that you purchased? If it is from seed, what company has the seeds? I haven't seen this type in my area, but would love to try it! I will be on the lookout for it! Thanks for sharing and Happy Gardening! Mindy

The basil seeds were purchased from renee's Garden, I believe clicking "salad leaf basil" directly below the photo will link to them.

Sue- the early and cherry tomatoes are sizing up, still green though. :)

SouthCoast Guy- it is behind this year for me, usually I have ripe tomatoes (Sungold) in June. Peppers and eggplant are behind as well.

Erin- Happy 4th to you and your family as well, we have had a blast studying the history behind the holiday this week. You should see the size of the persians I just picked- seems I have negelected them this week and they are a wee bit too big! I should post a picture. :)
