We all survived the first two days of kindergarten, and I shed fewer tears than expected. Guess I got it all out of my system well in advance of the big day.... not having him home for lunch has been the biggest adjustment for me. He has always been home for lunch!
The saved seeds were rinsed and set out to dry last night. My garlic arrived on Friday (Chet's Italian Red) though it is too early to plant it out by my calculations. Not much going on in the garden. Seedlings are emerging, the squash under row cover are much happier, and the eggplant and peppers continue to be frozen in time. I should either cover them up or rip them out. I am trying to let my beans mature and dry for seed, but possible disease and bug damage are making a mess of them.

The ground around the sweet potato vines is beginning to rise and crack, that must a good sign. I have looked it up so many times, but I can never remember when to harvest them. (Soon or do I wait until we are due for a frost??)

Can't wait to see the sweet potatoes! I still need to order more garlic, I don't put them in down here until November so I am sure you have a little time yet too. I am going to pull out my eggplant, they are still producing but I am not doing anything with them! I left them in the ground until now only because I had houseguests and the plants looked so pretty... they were looking forward to seeing the garden and I felt bad that almost everything was ripped out before they got here! They are probably thinking I had been posting pics of a neighbor's garden on my blog, lol! But now all the guests are gone and it's time to get serious about my fall plantings!

Hey Kelly, when are you planning on planting your garlic? I ordered mine from Seed Savers Exchange and won't get them in the mail until the first week of October.

I am thinking it should go in around the first frost date, and of course there are a range of those. I am planning on planting in mid October. (I think Oct 10th is my 'mid' frost date....I will have to verify though.)

I dug a few sweet potatoes up the other night and we had them for dinner. So yummy! Can't wait to pull mine in either!
