R.I.P. Travis

Our boy had had a rough couple of days, and we decided to bring him peace today.
But first, we hit the doughnut shop and brought him to the beach.  (Unfortunately, he was suffering too  much to enjoy any of it.)

We are so lucky to have had him in our lives, and he will be desperately missed.

Sorry to hear about your puppy. It's one of the most difficult decisions to make, but you did the right thing. He had a good life.

So very sorry to hear about your puppy. I've had to make the same decision twice in the past four years (I had two goldens, one was 17 and had a terrible time with his hips, and one was 12 and had cancer) and it is the most difficult decision in the world to make, even when they've had a long and beautiful life. Sending you and your family my thoughts and prayers, and saying an extra one for Travis. I hope he finds my puppies up there, they always loved new friends <3

Oh, Kelly, I'm so sad to hear of Travis' passing. Take comfort in knowing you did all you could for him, and that he left this earth as a very much loved companion.

So sorry, Kelly. He had a wonderful life with a loving family so take comfort in that. How are the kids doing?

Thank-you everyone for your kind words.

I told Travis this morning that we needed to put him to rest, and he for the first time in his life did not want to walk into that vet office today, and once in, he actually tried to escape. He also started trembling when we loaded him into the car before heading out, and this is where he had preferred to be since he fell ill, many days he slept in the back of my SUV for hours on end. So that made the process more difficult, seeing that he had some sense of it, and was scared/not ready to die.

The kids are doing okay. My little boy was quite upset to have had to leave his body behind, but we are having him cremated so we have tried to comfort him with the knowledge that his body will come back to us in a another form.

The kids stayed in the room up until the final dose of anesthetic was administered, so they saw him become unresponsive. I was there for his final breath and it passed without me even knowing, he went quite peacefully.

I feel good about your being with him at the end. Our vet wouldn't allow us to be in the room when our Vern went to sleep. He also sensed something was wrong, as your Travis did. We had Vern cremated, then we encased the box in concrete, etched his name and dates on it, and it was used as a stepping stone at the entrance to my granddaughter's secret garden (which is now the area behind the shed). It's been 12 years now, and we still miss our old companion.

AG, I am sorry you were not aloud to be there when Vern passed. We never forget our faithful companions, they give us so much love.

I'm sorry to hear about Travis...tears in my eyes...I'm sure that even though he couldn't enjoy the beach as much as you hoped, he enjoyed it inside. xo
