*&*^$!
We are pulling the plug on cable for the remainder of the year, if not indefinitely. This unfortunately means the thieves will be charging us $55.00/mo. for high speed internet.....uh, no they won't. (Funny how they charge you more when you don't take their TV channels too isn't it?) So come Monday you may not hear from me often, I may be going to coffee shops and such in order to read your blogs, and try to do a post on mine every now and agin. I was OK with the TV sacrifice since we have been discussing this move for a year now- but I was NOT prepared to give up my high speed internet.....you all know how long a blog takes to load on dial-up. Sigh, it has been a fun run and hopefully I will find an alternative to the cable company's highway robbery.

Well, I sure am sorry to hear about the internet part!
We've never had cable/satellite since we were married (6 years) and didn't even get a computer till last year. The nice thing is...we get three separate unsecured wireless internet signals here, so we've never paid for internet, either!
Good thing, since the landscaping industry tanked we wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. I hear wireless signals can run around $30 a month, have you given that option any thought?
We just looked into air cards, which started at $40/month...I would need closer to a $60/month card to continue paying bills and blogging etc.....my husband is in negotiations for a lower monthly internet cost, but it requires a 2 yr contract.....these people stink.
All of my neighbors have secured wireless systems, my husband kind of needs it at home to do any work- so I am just going to start writing it off, should have done it this past year but I forgot to....we have wireless hooked up through his company which is nice.
I can imagine life without TV, but the internet I would miss dearly!! Good for you for never getting hooked in the first place, lol.
Been there, done that. I'm happy with my cable internet (anything is better than the crappy satellite signal I get in AZ), but it is pricey. We had a good deal with the bundle, internet, phone and cable, but Mr. H hated the cable TV and went back to DISH, so I also have to pay a premium for stand alone internet. I locked into a two year contract just to get the lower price, but with modem rental it's still going to cost me about $40 a month. Our only other options were Clearwire (crappy, I had them once) and Qwest, which is slower and costs about the same. I could drive into town to the library, but that's just not feasible with the blog and all.
They getcha don't they AG?
Hubby did the 2 year contract, turns out he got it for less than we are currently paying for internet so I am happy.....I can continue my morning blogging with coffee! YIPEE!! :)
I'm right there with you. I lived without cable for a few months and I was soooo fine with that but then football season came ago and someone decided that they had to have it.
YIPEE! We're good to go for another two years ;-)
I too am sorry to hear about the dial up - what's this? problem adverted? that's awesome!! Gonna post some CAT pictures for your kid today. Peace
Congrats on kicking the cable! We are at the one month mark I think and I don't even miss it, and I seem to get more done around the house! We still have our internet through them, but we have the lowest tier at 32.95. Don't believe what they tell you on the speed that "you need". I downgraded to the lowest speed that was still "high speed" and the only difference I noticed was in downloading movies, and videos for my blog. I can still do it, but I just hit "upload" and go finish laundry and come back, lol! For bill paying and general surfing, the lowest tier is fine. If you need to back off your blog posts, we'll still be here reading, just don't stop altogether, I love to hear your adventures! How did your plants fare last night? Down here we have one more day of the cold today and tonight and it's supposed to warm back up.
It is too cold for me to go out there and check Erin, lol- as in feels like temperature of 17, whatever that means...really it is closer to 25 degrees. We are at the lowest tier I believe.....anything is better than dial-up when blogging!
RuralRose- How cool of you, he just had quite the smirk over his morning bagel when I shared the news of your CAT photo sharing.
Thomas- It was the darn football huh? ;)
AG- Thank goodness, I really would have missed you all! I was so bummed I immediately posted to my blog (as you all know).
Girl, it's just not right to scare people like that! LOL ;-)
I am with you sister. We dropped down to a "basic" package for $12 a month. Think we may get rid of it all together. No time to watch it in the summer any way! Good luck to you! : )
